Emma’s Week at the Farm

by Tim at 10:19PM

After Everett was born, my parents took Emma back with them to their farm for a week so Steph and I could have time to get settled with the new baby.  Emma had an absolute ball.  She helped with the horses and cows, played with the dogs and cats, decorated for Christmas, played with toys with Grandma ReeRee and Papa Joe, and did lots of other fun things.

Grandma ReeRee found a piece of cardboard and some twine that they made into a sled and they pulled each other down a small hill.  Brown Steve and Cleo joined in on the fun as well.

Among the many funny stories that transpired (I’ll have to get Mom and Dad to tell me more of them or they can post them in the comments) are a few funny potty stories that I just have to share, since she has been doing so well at her potty training and now only wears a diaper when she goes to bed (not even at nap).

WARNING:  If a 3-year-old’s viewpoint of bodily functions might offend you, stop reading now.

  • “Outside Pee Pee”  Emma was helping Grandma out in the pasture and had to tinkle but Grandma figured they were too far away from the house to make it in time so she sat Emma on the side of the pickup truck bed with her rear hanging off the outside and let her go.  Apparently Emma thought it was extremely fun.  Even a couple of weeks later we still hear about “outside pee pee” whenever we ask her which bathroom she wants to use (we’ve read that letting kids make minor decisions like which bathroom helps give them a sense of control and they are more willing to go along with your request to go potty—it seems to work well so far!).  She seems to believe outside is a possible third choice.

  • “Bucket Pee Pee”  A similar event occurred when Emma and Grandma were in the barn, too far away from the house to go inside for Emma to potty.  So she piddled in an old farm bucket and loved every minute of it.

  • “Alligator Poo Poo”  Emma hadn’t “gone” in several days and when she finally did she exclaimed to Grandma that it was “alligator poo poo”—we all assume because of the shape but who knows what goes through the mind of a 3 year old.

  • Raise Your Arms to Hold Your Piddle  Grandma and Emma were shopping in an aisle at the back of the store when Emma exclaimed worriedly, “pee pee!”  So Grandma told her to hold on and they raced to the restrooms at the front of the store all the while Emma is holding both hands up straight in the air and I believe she was saying, “Hold it!  Hold it!”  She made it, so maybe that helps…
